Face beauty is determined by its proper aesthetic proportions and lips are part of them. In volume, they should correspond to the volume of the eyes and eyebrows. Upper and lower lips should be the equal volume, at the profile line juicy, with sexy borderline appearance.

Cosmetic surgery enjoys a variety of methods for lip augmentation: by own tissue or by implants.

Temporary or lasting implants could be placed surgically or by injection. They could be placed at certain locations according to patients needs. Surgical placement of implants is allowed using 2 points per lip near the oral commissure. Implant placement, and if necessary - removal, should not leave a scar. Injectable and other implants (fillers) may be used only if CE permitted. It is important for patients to know that, especially the use of liquid silicone injections are forbidden and pursued by law.

Patients must be 18 years of age.

LIP AUGMENTATION
This is one of the most common cosmetic procedures today. With the influx of black skin models in fashion, aesthetics of lip volume turned to eternal requirements, lips to meet as a proportion the volume of eyes and eyebrows.

Silicone for intraocular injection for short-term adhesion of retina have low purity and must not be used for permanent (lifelong) aesthetic purposes. All patients with silicone injection are subjected to repeated excisions of the lips, but silicone penetrated into the tissues, can never be eliminated entirely.
TEMPORARY injectable fillers are based primarily on hyaluronic acid. There are many products with different densities to fill lips or wrinkles. More permanent preparations are cross linked or double cross linked.

FAT TRANSPLANTATION
There is also a method of filling the lips with autologous fat. This method does not give the most aesthetic results - organized reaction is much more violent, a large swelling and redness is present for days. Unfortunately the result is not stable, nor uniform. Fat cells should be vascularized in the new position powered by the own tissue blood supply. Only cells in a good contact with the own tissues can receive blood supply. All others die and are absorbed. Thus, the effect decreases and is proven to retain minimum 30% of the injected volume. Over filling does not give aesthetic appearance and better survival. Fat transplantation could need repeated or adjusting procedures.

SURGICAL METHODS WITH PERMANENT EFECT
LIP MARGIN SKIN EXCISION gives poor results with visible scars and should be abandoned.
WY AND VY PLASTY outpatient operations inside the lips increase the volume and the pink surface area permanently with a very good and stable result. Dr. Serdev’s modified method allows for maximum increase, even with thin lips, and reduces trauma. Lips heal fast for 3-5 days. Hyposensitivity could persist no more than 2-3 months that is the only inconvenience, but the result is permanent without using foreign bodies. This operation should be performed by qualified cosmetic surgeon.

GORE-TEX BAND - can be used temporary or permanent.
Placement of goretex band is a brief outpatient surgery under local anesthetic. Soft elastic surgical Goretex band (bundle of Gore-Tex threads is a wrong technique) along the contour of the lips is intended to prevent lip wrinkling. It is a permitted implantation material used also in vascular and cardiac valvular prostheses. The material has a very soft-elastic consistency and can not be felt in touching or kissing. This band may be removed at any time (temporary use) and can be placed at any time again using only point perforations that does not leave a scar. The effect of increasing the lip volume is about 2 mm as the thickness of the tape. Additional effect is on lip juiciness. This method is recommended for women over 35, when first signs of lip wrinkling appears. It is also preferred by young women who prefer minimal unobtrusive, but permanent effect with an implant that can be removed at any time, without negatives. In this method, swelling of lips is invisible and patients can return to work and social life the next day.
SILICONE IMPLANTS have similar application.

Lip Augmentation - standard describtion

"Ever since the ancient times women used cosmetic to enhance the appearance of their lips. Lip augmentation is a procedure design for people wishing to enlarge and reshape their lips. It allows creating more sensual looking lips using various techniques available. This procedure can also help people with congenital lip defects. The ideal candidates for lip augmentation are men and women otherwise healthy who wishes to reshape the appearance of their lips. There are some conditions in which lip augmentation is contradicted; those include facial nerve disorders, recurrent herpes infection, diabetes, history of multiple allergies and autoimmune disorders.

This procedure can be performed using injectable fillers, implants and surgical manipulations. All techniques are performed using local anesthetics.
Injectable fillers - this technique uses several materials that are injected into your lips. The most common injectors include collagen and autologous fat. Other are hyaloronic acid preparations such as Restylane or Perlane and bioplastique. The advantage of autologous fat injection is that it provided long term and sometimes permanent results. The fat is harvested from the umbilical area and injected in small proportions to the lips.
Implants - can be synthetic for example polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, Soft-Form) and biomaterials, for example dermis, fascia and donor dermis (AlloDerm). The implants come in various sizes and are implanted below the lip skin. Two small cuts are made in the corners of the mouth from the inside, then the implant is delivered inside using a special passer.

Surgical procedures - the surgeon performs various manipulations to create new look for your lips. The cuts are made from the inside of your mouth, involving only skin and mucous membranes. Flaps are created to either shorter the distance or to fill the desired space.

Every procedure has its complications, this one includes; allergic reactions to collagen, haematoma of the donor site, skin scaring, infections, asymmetry of the lips, impaired lip function and sensation changes.
After the procedure you're lips will be covered with ice packs for the first 24 hours. You'll be asked to avoid excessive talking, smiling or laughing for about a week. Oral analgesics are provided to reduce the pain. Swelling is very common it usually persists for 7-10 days. During the postoperative period it is recommended to use ice packs, avoid sunlight and solid food and use special saline for lip care. You also may feel numbness around the lips, this usually resolves after 4-6 weeks.

Fat Grafting - standard describtion

"As we grow older our face becomes more and more affected by the sun, gravity and the use of expression muscles (chewing, smiling, etc). Deep tissues lose the ability to maintain a young look and expression marks appear on our faces.

Fat grafting can help you fill the defects and regain younger appearance. It can be used to fill expression folds, sunken cheeks, scars and lips. This procedure is not aimed to treat deep defects, such as multiple grooves around the mouth of heavy smokers. It can be done as an isolated treatment or as a combination with laser, facelift and botox.

During the procedure the surgeon performs a liposuction from various body parts, such as thighs, tummy and buttocks, and then injects the fat into selected areas which need to be filled. After disinfection of the donor and recipient areas, they are being sedated using local anesthetics. Sedative drugs also can be used. In such case you may need an escort to avoid driving under influence. For liposuction the surgeon uses wide needle or canola. After a short treatment the fat is injected to the desired site. The recipient area is usually bandaged. In order to fill sunken cheeks over filling is often required, because of the absorption process with some of the fat injected. This can make your face appear over-swollen immediately after the operation.

If the area treated is extensive, it is advisable to restrain from activities after treatment. Although most patients can go back to their daily activities right away. There might be redness, swelling and small hemorrhages around both the donor and the recipient sites. The severity of such symptoms usually depends on the magnitude of the procedure. It is advisable to avoid sun exposure until the above disappear (after approximately 48 hours). There is no limitation to using make-up. The swelling can last for weeks, especially where the area is large.

Every operation has its risks. The fat being taken from the patient`s body should not cause allergic responses. There is a little chance of infection.

You must remember that the effect of the injection is only temporary. Due to their biological nature, the injected materials disassemble by the body. The duration of the effect depends on genetics, age, skin quality, life style and the area being filled. There are selected cases where the results lasted a year, however, in most cases half the effect disappears after 3-6 months."
